“Wrinkles in the nose”: problems with Boeing 787 Dream again…

The American aviation authority FAA has announced that the – not yet delivered – Boeing 787 Dreamliners have a new defect. The aircraft manufacturer will resolve the issues before the aircraft leave the factory, the FAA said.

According to the aviation authority, the newly discovered manufacturing flaw is near the nose of certain 787-type aircraft. “The flaw was discovered during the ongoing wide-ranging inspections of the Boeing 787 imposed by the FAA.” According to sources, there is a problem with “wrinkles” in the front pressure bulkhead (part of the pressurized cabin) in the nose of the aircraft.

The issue poses no immediate problems, according to the FAA. But Boeing has committed to adapting the aircraft before delivery. The FAA will still examine the data to determine if any adjustments are needed on Dreamliners already in active service. Boeing could not be reached for comment.

It is yet another problem with the 787 Dreamliner. At the end of May, the aircraft manufacturer again temporarily stopped deliveries of the type due to technical problems with the aircraft. They had just started again after a five-month hiatus due to electrical and other problems that played out from the end of 2020.
