Wrexham players offered a £ 250,000 promo bonus by the club’s new Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

Wrexham players will receive a £ 250,000 bonus from Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney if the club wins the National League promotion this season.

Deadpool star Reynolds and McElhenney completed their acquisition of the Welsh club earlier this month, which is currently seventh in the National League and occupies the final play-off position.

With McElhenney and Reynolds at the helm, this is sure to be an interesting chapter in Wrexham’s history!

And the pair quickly worked their way into the good books of the team by implementing a player bonus scheme after reaching an agreement with captain Shaun Pearson on behalf of the team.

CEO Humphrey Ker told the club’s official website: “Rob and Ryan wanted to acknowledge the players’ confidence that they can make it to the play-offs this season and provide an additional financial incentive to do so.

“There was no obligation to address this, but it felt like the right thing to do to support the existing team of players who are playing for their future at the club.

“With the transfer window closed, we all need to support this group of players and Rob and Ryan wanted to be at the forefront, showing their support.

“We have already talked about next season and the hiring of new players. Current players are in the best place to stake their own right to be part of the club’s journey.

“There will be no discussions about the contract with the existing senior team until the end of the season, which is another reason why we thought it was right to implement the incentive scheme for current players.”

Ker said players will receive £ 200 for each win and £ 50 for a draw, provided Wrexham remains in a play-off position, while a £ 250,000 bonus pot rewards the promotion.

The new Wrexham property believes the incentive scheme is the most generous ever offered since the relegation of the Red Dragons from the English Football League in 2008.

“We are grateful for the incentive Rob and Ryan have given us,” said skipper Shaun Pearson.

“We believe that as a group we have the opportunity to enter the play-offs and hopefully achieve what everyone involved in the club wants: to return to the Football League.

“The acquisition has brought exciting times for the entire club, city and community and we also want to bring more excitement through our achievements on the field.”

Reynolds and McElhenney have made a £ 2 million investment in the club since taking 100 per cent control of the Wrexham Supporters Trust on 9 February.

The couple said at the end of the agreement that “the identification of the players of the first team will be a priority”, in addition to pledging money to improve the women’s soccer program, community initiatives and the Hippodrome.
