Dauren Kourougliev needs one more victory to give Greece its 8th medal at the Paris Olympics.
The Greekized wrestler from Dagestan, Russia easily defeated Australia’s Jayden Lawrence in the first bout of the 86kg repechage with technical superiority after the points went up 10-0 in a matter of seconds.
The 32-year-old Kurugliev is set to defeat Miles Amine tonight at around 9pm. to claim one of the two bronze medals in the category. Amine, who has never beaten Kurugliev, is American but represents San Marino, his great-grandfather’s hometown.
The Greek participation in freestyle wrestling will be completed at the weekend, with Giorgos Kougioumtsidis at 74 kg, while Maria Prevolaraki could not distinguish herself in the Women’s 53 kg.
