Musa Mseleku said he had been called a hypocrite against polyandry because he had four wives.

The leader of the opposition African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) Kenneth Meshoe said the proposed law could “devastate society” if equal marriage rights were granted to women, citing the Independent.
Professor Collis Machoko said objections were ‘about control’ because African society was not ready for true equality.

He researched polyandry in Zimbabwe, his country of birth, speaking to 20 women who practice it even though the practice is socially taboo and not legally recognized.
