Wow! This is the First Appearance of the Largest Moon in the Solar System

Suara.com – Spacecraft Juno belonging to NASA had the opportunity to traverse one of the Jupiter’s moon, at once biggest moon in the solar system, Ganymede, on June 7 at 13:35 EDT or June 8 in Indonesia.

Juno passed just 1,038 km from Ganymede and it was the closest probe to Ganymede since May 2000, carried out by Galileo’s spacecraft at a distance of 1,000 km.

This exploration resulted in Juno’s first photos of Ganymede.

It took some time to receive and process all the data to Earth.

One of the pictures taken by the JunoCam instrument shows almost the entire side of Ganymede lined with craters.

The crater is thought to hold a large ocean of liquid water beneath its ice shell.

The JunoCam photo, which has a resolution of about 0.6 miles per pixel, was taken using the instrument’s green filter.

The image was sent in black and white, but the mission team was able to create a color portrait after a version shot with JunoCam’s red and blue filters was shipped.

Meanwhile, the second photo is from the Stellar Reference Unit, the black-and-white camera Juno uses for navigation.

The image, which displays a resolution of 0.37 miles to 0.56 miles per pixel, shows the side of Ganymede opposite the Sun, illuminated by the faint light reflecting off Jupiter.
