Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A study shows that AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine injection interval can be extended for a very long period of time.
Citing Reuters on Monday (28/06/2021), the study conducted by the University of Oxford stated that the second dose was also said to be delayed up to 45 weeks after the first dose of injection.
In addition, the study also showed that the third booster injection of the AstraZeneca vaccine was able to produce a strong immune response against Covid-19. However, booster injections are not so necessary given this long lag time.
“We do have to be in a position where we can improve if it turns out to be necessary … (but) we have no evidence that it is,” said Andrew Pollard, director of the Oxford Vaccine Group. /2021).
He said, with the results of this study, it is hoped that later citizens of countries that have received a lot of vaccines, such as the UK, will be able to share them with countries that have not received the vaccine.
“At this point with such a high level of protection in the UK population and no evidence that it is missing, giving a third dose now in the UK while other countries have zero doses is unacceptable.”
This news adds to the positive catalyst for the AstraZeneca vaccine. Previously, a study showed that the vaccine made by the British company was effective against the Delta and Kappa variants that were first discovered in India.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia the AstraZeneca vaccine itself has been used for the national vaccination campaign. This vaccine is obtained directly through the multilateral Covax vaccine sharing program initiated by WHO.
