Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – clinical trials coronavirus vaccine (Covid-19) apparently already started in China. The potential vaccine was developed by the German pharmaceutical group BiNTech with a Chinese company named Fosun Pharma.
As many as 72 volunteers have already received the first dose of the vaccine. But this is still the first phase, and permission to conduct tests in this initial phase has been given by the Chinese authorities. In total there will be 144 volunteers who are injected with two doses of the vaccine within a gap of 21 days.
Reporting from AFPOn Wednesday (5/8/2020), the two companies explained that the volunteers were those aged 18-55 years.
The vaccine candidate is named BNT162b1, and this is one of four vaccines developed by BioNTech. While other types of vaccine candidates, namely BNT162b2, are being evaluated for a third phase of testing by BioNTech and Pfizer from the United States.
A number of laboratories in the world are competing to find the Covid-19 vaccine, which has claimed more than 700 thousand lives, and millions of people are infected with the virus.
There are more than 200 vaccine candidates currently under development, and many have already been tested in humans.
Several Chinese companies are ahead of the world vaccine race, while Russia plans to start producing the first Covid-19 vaccine for the public in September 2020.
A number of companies that are also leading the vaccine candidates include BioNTech / Pfizer, then Moderna, University of Oxford and AstraZeneca.
