Could Mbappe & Messi’s PSG contract be cancelled?
Mbappe, according to confirmation GOALhad agreed on the terms to join Madrid once his contract was signed The Parisians expires this summer. But The 23-year-old striker actually changed his mind and extended his tenure with PSG.
Suddenly, La Liga went into a rage after failing to ensure the future superstar played in the Spanish League, and felt that Mbappe’s contract was “illegal” and violated the FFP.
Juan Branco, a lawyer hired by La Liga, said at a press conference at a Paris hotel on Friday (17/6) local time: “We are trying to get new decisions like [undang-undang] Bosman, who liberated the market [pada 1995].”
“Now what we want is for the market to be regulated and [finansial] Liga [Spanyol]which incidentally is very tight, was widened throughout Europe.”
The 32-year-old explained that they would ask the French Minister of Sport, Amelie Oudea-Castera, to revoke the validity of all PSG player contracts signed after 25 June 2021, the date on which the last inspection was carried out by the French authorities.
That will affect Mbappe’s contract, which according to the lawyer’s calculations is worth €500 million over three years, and that of Lionel Messi, who PSG signed for free from Barcelona on 11 August 2021. Messi’s contract will also go through a legal process led by Branco, following Barcelona’s request.

Although admitting it was difficult to win in a French court, considering French President Emmanuel Macron asks Mbappe to stay in Paris, Branco is confident he can succeed in European courts because clubs like PSG, which are owned by the Qatari sovereign wealth fund, violated the free competition rules governing the European Union’s single market. If they lose in a French court, La Liga’s lawyers will take the case to the European Commission and even file a complaint with the European Union’s Court of Law.
