The government encourages the use of electric vehicles. To make this happen, the government is also working on a subsidy scheme to increase more and more users of electric vehicles.
Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi explained that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had instructed the ministry to prioritize electric vehicles.

He continued, his party is currently in discussions with the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) to provide subsidies for electric vehicles. The grant is good for KL and the community.
“Together we are discussing with the Ministry of Finance, there will be subsidies. At the time of the conversion there were subsidies, especially for the first time obviously the motorcycles. Both those who have KL and the community. Especially those related to commercial ones” , has explained.
As for the subsidy scheme, according to Budi Karya, local governments can provide subsidies to encourage the use of electric vehicles. Therefore, the subsidy can also come from the fuel subsidy.
“It’s like local governments. Local governments want their cities to be environmentally friendly. I think if they respect the environment, they prioritize residents of cities that use electric motors, which are electric vehicles. It could be that the budget that was previously less productive is used for this, “he said.
“Furthermore, the main subsidy previously used for fuel can be converted into this same conversion,” he added.
