Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Government China decided to impose a lockdown in the Myanmar border town of Ruili, Monday (5/7/2021).
This comes after health authorities found three cases of Covid-19 in the city. Quotes AFP, one in three cases reported to a Myanmar citizen.
“One of the three infected patients is a Myanmar national,” said health authorities in the city’s Yunnan province.
Not only the lockdown, the authorities also said they would conduct tests on residents. In doing this, residents are asked to stay at home.
“We will test all residents for the virus within two days and all non-essential travel will be banned until further notice,” the local government said.
“Anyone wishing to leave the city must present a negative virus test conducted within the last 72 hours.”
The authorities also said they would continue to reinforce the Ruili border to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants. This lockdown is the second time Ruili has experienced the same thing since last March.
Ruili is the main crossing point of Muse in neighboring Myanmar. This geographical proximity makes the city a destination for refugees threatened by the violence of the military junta that took power in Myanmar on February 1.
