To his own shame and shame, Wouter Deprez (46) experiences that he occasionally – even in the not so distant past – has sometimes appointed himself, convinced as he was of his Great Right. Progressive insight has got hold of him, and that is sometimes a hard observation. “At times it’s like I’m betraying my own nest.” What has not been affected: his love for the language, an inheritance from his parents, a genetic vehicle, as he calls it. It is entwined deep within him. So deep that he hung his new hall show on it.
