Manchester United one step closer to recruiting Wout Weghorst. Unfortunately, Weghorst was unable to appear at Derby Manchester.
Weghorst will replace Cristiano Ronaldo on the front lines temporarily. He is on loan from Burnley until the end of the season.
To get Weghorst, MU had to pay £2.5 million in compensation to Besiktas, who borrowed him until the end of the season. Besiktas was reluctant to let go of a player who has scored eight goals for them in the Turkish League.
After the agreement was reached, Weghorst immediately flew to the city of Manchester on a private jet to complete his move, Thursday (12/1/2023) yesterday.
The move process was accelerated by MU so that the medical tests could be completed on time before Friday (13/1) afternoon local time. That is the deadline for Weghorst’s registration to play against Manchester City at Old Trafford tomorrow night.
Unfortunately, MU’s wish to play Weghorst in the derby match was not fulfilled. Because the registration process for the 30-year-old player has not been completed.
“He is one step away from becoming a MU player. But he cannot play tomorrow (against Man City),” said the MU manager Erik ten Hag Of Daily Mail.
Arrival Wout Weghorst will add options in the attack line as well as provide a new dimension, after MU mostly strengthened by wingers and not number nine players.
Weghorst is no stranger to the Premier League because last season he played for Burnley for six months. However, he failed to save the club from relegation and only made two goals.
