Herman van der Zandt reports daily on ‘The Evening Stage’ from a location close to the Tour de France. The viewers were therefore surprised when van der Zandt reported with all kinds of banners behind him. “If you look behind me, you would say: I’m already in Paris. But as we all know, Paris is still a long way,” he told viewers. “No, I’m in Utrecht. Where I live and where my son has his 8th grade farewell musical.”

Despite the fact that van der Zandt had to miss the Tour de France, he remained in the realm of cycling. “The musical was also about the Tour de France, which also arrived here. And that was won by Mathieu van der Modderpoel. There was also a reporter who was going to interview the riders, so I don’t think I was out of the Tour at all.”

With his boss’s approval, he left his work for a day so as not to miss this important moment for his son. He promised viewers that he would be back at the Tour de France the next day.
