would the weather have an impact on the circulation of the virus?

A cold wave has hit France in recent days. Would this sudden change in temperature have an impact on the circulation of the virus?

Several regions record these temperatures below zero. Could these drops in the thermometer have a role to play in the circulation of the coronavirus, which remains very active?

Epidemiologist Pascal Crépet, interviewed by RTL, warns: “when it is cold, we tend to change our behavior: live more indoors and ventilate less, thus promoting the concentration of aerosols”. Thus, he explains, “the air is renewed less and there is a greater risk of contaminating more people”.

What measures are better to adopt? For the epidemiologist, it is necessary to “continue to ventilate the rooms when possible”. But also to continue to apply other barrier gestures such as “physical distancing, wearing a mask, limiting inter-individual contact, which are measures which themselves work whatever the outside temperature”.
