The Ministry of Health reported that confirmed and probable cases of chikungunya amount to 44,649, 49.5% of notifications, totaling 90,074. Confirmed dengue cases only reach 791.
There are 51 deaths from chikungunya, of which 11 are under one year of age and 32 people over 60 years of age, with a predominance of males.
The director of Health Surveillance, Guillermo Sequera, said that few countries had the chikungunya epidemic that Paraguay is experiencing, but that mortality is within 0.1% of the global fatality rate.
