Worried family members brought family back weeks ago from nursing home Maranatha in Rijssen

In recent weeks, various family members have taken their family members from the Maranatha nursing home in Rijssen to care for at home. This would be because it is “so poorly regulated there,” says a direct source. For several weeks there has been unrest among the people of Rijssen about the corona outbreak in the nursing home.

Other family members say that they have seen with their own eyes that they did not work carefully. It is said that staff who had cared for a corona patient then cared for another client with the same clothes on. Meanwhile, rumors are swelling. But there is no one who dares to say or confirm more about it.

Last week it was announced that Rijssen scores relatively high with the number of corona berry measurements. Twelve of the nineteen deceased persons in the Rijssen-Holten municipality lived in Maranatha.

Inspection

Inquiries with the Inspectorate SZW show that no unsafe work situations have been reported at Maranatha in Rijssen.

Cause

In a response, chairman of the board Ad Plomp said that the RIVM protocol was always used. “We have always had sufficient protective equipment in stock. We had a hygiene consultant take a look at our working method. He confirmed that we are doing the right things,” says Plomp.

Plomp is looking for the cause of the outbreak in society. “If the virus is prevalent and the employees almost all come from the Rijssense society, then it will also arrive in the nursing home,” says Plomp.

On the right track

Plomp says they are doing everything they can to contain the outbreak. “The positive news is that there are now two departments corona-free, in two other departments people are still sick,” said the chairman.

At the moment, the doors of the care home are still closed for visitors. Preparations for a relaxed visitor arrangement are underway.

Keep calm

The city council is also confronted with the situation and the rumor flow. “We sometimes hear something, but it is the task of the management, together with the GGD, to take action on this,” says Mayor Arco Hofland. “It is important for now to keep the peace.”

Councilor Ben Beens has had contact with the management of the nursing home. “In the beginning, the rules of the RIVM were so different than they are now. The management says they have complied. As soon as testing could be done, action was also taken,” says Beens.

Bulgarians in quarantine

The municipality also indicates that it will be attentive in the near future to companies with a high labor intensity. This was partly due to the closure of the slaughterhouse in Groenlo.

A number of Bulgarians who have been diagnosed with corona are currently staying at a holiday park in Holten. They are now in quarantine. When asked who checks whether they actually stay inside, the mayor must remain guilty of the answer. “That is just like everyone else’s own responsibility”.
