WorldSBK

The FIM Supersport World Championship had a weekend to remember during the Pirelli Indonesian Round, as Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) was crowned two-time WorldSSP Champion at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. Only four riders, including Aegerter, have won more than one title in WorldSSP and the Swiss rider certainly made his mark in the championship before making the leap to WorldSBK. To celebrate her new title, we bring you ten facts you may not have known about #DoubleDomi.

1. Aegerter wears number 77, but initially started with number 7 because it’s the number his father put him in his first races, pushed by his favorite driver, Barry Sheene. When Aegerter moved up to sprinting, another rider was already wearing number 7, so he decided to simply add another 7. It has now become his lucky number. He wears earring no. 77 in the left ear.

2. The double champion mentions two athletes with whom he would like to alternate for a day. One of them is nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi, who has won 115 races in the 125cc, 250cc, 500cc and MotoGP™ world championships and the other is Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, who has competed in 31 Grand Slam finals and won 20, as well as a total of 103 individual victories over the course of his career.

3. Aegerter has motorsport in his blood and says if he weren’t a racing driver, he would equally be involved in any discipline of motorsport in a different way, be it motor racing, go-karting or perhaps as a mechanic.

4. The list of sports he loves to participate in is long. He likes motocross and supermotard, but also non-motorcycle sports like the gym, running, cycling, squash and skiing. All but squash constitute his favorite type of workout outside the circuits, while the flat track It’s also on his list as a workout activity.

5. Earlier this year, the three people he said he would invite to dinner were Rossi, rallycross driver and X Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana and singer Jennifer Lopez.

6. Many of the best memories of his career come from the MotoGP™ and WorldSBK paddocks. They date back to 2006, when he made his 125cc World Championship debut as a wild card at Estoril, collecting his first Moto2™ podium in 2011 at Valencia and his maiden victory in 2014 at the Sacehsnring, before successes in WorldSSP in 2021 and MotoE™ World Cup in 2022.

7. Aegerter doesn’t explicitly follow any MotoGP™ riders, but says racing in that championship is still a dream for him. He tested a MotoGP™ bike for the first time this year, when he took part in a test with Suzuki, but he also has experience with a Superbike ahead of his first season in WorldSBK next year: he competed in the 8 Hours of Suzuka six times, with a 2nd place as the best result, in 2015.

8. The 32-year-old says he has no hidden talents, as he always shows what he’s got, but says he’s not bad at cooking. His culinary specialties are salad, chicken and pasta.

9. On his days off, the Swiss biker likes to engage in various activities. He spends time with his friends, watches and plays sports, likes to go dancing and spends time on social media. Sometimes he throws a party, something he has referred to in interviews at Parc Fermé during his time in WorldSSP.

10. Her home in Switzerland is one of her favorite places, but she also likes to travel. She likes to visit Brazil, Thailand and Indonesia, perhaps more now after winning her second WorldSSP title in the Asian country, although she would also like to visit Venezuela.
