According to the city of Cologne, the bomb was defused at 2:28 p.m. The public order office had had the buildings around the site of the bomb evacuated since nine o’clock. In total, more than 2,600 people were affected by the evacuation. At 2 p.m. the evacuation was completed, but the first clearance had to be withdrawn to defuse it. According to the city of Cologne, there were still people in the danger area.
The people in the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Hohenlind also had to leave the building. Since around 200 patients could be discharged or transferred the day before, only around 100 patients had to be transported to other clinics on Friday.
