Within the framework of World Voluntary Blood Donor Day, the Undersecretariat for Healthy Habits together with the Regional Hemotherapy Center developed an awareness and promotion activity at the Monument to General San Martín and at the same time carried out a registry of new adherents to the provincial list of blood donors.
In the place, the pressure was also taken and advice was given on habits to be able to have an optimal state of health and thus have a greater probability of being a donor, in addition to emphasizing the importance of making regular donations, taking into account that each procedure can save up to four lives.
Candela Ehulech, Undersecretary for Healthy Habits, pointed out that “having a good state of health to be a possible donor is one of the requirements” to be able to add them to the list of citizens and citizen volunteers in the upcoming joint campaigns with the Regional Hemotherapy Center.
In addition, he indicated that the basic blood factor was taken from people -blood group and factor- and many understood that “if you donate 10 or 15 minutes of your time you can save four lives, and with that it is enough and plenty.”
For her part, the doctor from the Regional Hemotherapy Center, Romina Barufaldi, reported that the campaigns are the way to have “permanent availability of blood. Hospitals work thanks to the existence of blood. There are many interventions, obstetric complications, neonatal complications, burns, traffic accidents that persistently and continuously require the administration of blood”.
He said that this is achieved with “voluntary donors coming regularly at least twice a year, especially taking into account that blood donation is a medical act that is safe, accompanied at all times by health personnel” .
The requirements to donate blood are to be between 16 and 65 years old, to be in good health, weigh more than 50 kilos, not have had any blood-borne infection, not be pregnant or exclusively breastfeeding. It is very important that people come when they are going to donate, have previously had breakfast and rested well.
Barufaldi noted that it is very important not to have had tattoos or piercings in the last 12 months, to have a stable sexual partner and not to have had surgery or endoscopies in the previous six months.
On the other hand, he indicated that blood donors also have the possibility of joining the bone marrow registry, remaining on the INCUCAI list so that it can call them in case of compatibility.
The Regional Hemotherapy Center operates at 1915 Teodoro Planas street, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
