World Tuberculosis Day, There is already a Method of Detecting Drug Resistance Faster

Liputan6.com, Jakarta In the Day Tuberculosis (TB) Worldwide on March 24, 2022, clinical pathologist Francisca Srioetami Tanoerahardjo explained the developments Next Generation Sequencing or NGS.

According to him, NGS is the development of the method drug susceptibility testing (DST) to find out the right drug used for TB patients. As is known, there are types of TB that are drug-resistant or do not heal when treated with certain drugs.

The DST method can help direct TB patients to the right treatment, but this method requires a long time of 1 to 2 months because it uses liquid cultures for detection.

“Whereas, NGS allows for more accurate results and a faster process using phlegm,” said Francisca in a virtual Illumina seminar, Thursday (24/3/2022).
