World trade is threatened and only Russia can save it! Yemen’s Houthis take revenge on the West for Gaza – 2024-03-13 22:53:04

/ world today news/ The US is getting worse and worse in the game of “controlled chaos”. Thus, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict could not be kept under control; it quickly spread, hitting the most sensitive place of all world trade – the Red Sea.

This narrow sea corridor with two throats to the north and south – the Suez Canal and the Bab el Mandeb Strait – is now under active fire from the Yemeni Houthis. All ships (regardless of their flag) that the Houthis suspect of going to Israel or connected in any way to Israel are attacked. They are firing missiles and sending drones from the Yemeni coast. Each successful strike is celebrated at rallies in Sana’a, Yemen’s capital.

This story began back in November – in response to the barbaric attacks of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip. But for several weeks, everyone tried to pretend that nothing was happening: “money loves silence.” After all, the Red Sea accounts for 10-12% of all shipping, almost a third of all container traffic, and handles a trillion dollars worth of goods annually.

Therefore, merchant ships simply quietly changed their routes – instead of the Suez Canal, they passed, as if five hundred years ago, around the whole of Africa, through the Cape of Good Hope. Naturally, this lengthened the route and made transportation more expensive. Insurers also quietly raised their prices – in just a few weeks, the cost of insurance for Israeli ships at Lloyds increased by 250 percent.

At the end of last week, however, the Houthis managed to set fire to a container ship belonging to the German carrier Hapag-Lloyd with a rocket attack. A day ago, a Norwegian bulk carrier caught fire from a missile attack. And even earlier, an American warship, the destroyer “Kearney”, was attacked. And then several of the largest European carriers announced that their ships would not enter the Red Sea.

So they all turned and looked at Washington. The coast of the Red Sea is surrounded by American military bases. The US Navy is positioned in the region as a guarantor of peace and security. And for such things to happen…

In addition, the most powerful navy in the world is opposed here by literal partisans. The world community still considers the Houthis to be some kind of “rebels” (some time ago, at the initiative of the USA, they were treated as “terrorists”), even though they themselves are considered a legitimate government in Yemen and enjoy the support of millions of Yemenis.

Currently, American and British warships are proudly reporting that they have shot down several drones. Yet drones and missiles continue to fly, and one of the world’s major trade corridors is under threat from a very specific blockade.

From a military point of view, the situation appears to be a stalemate. The United States has ordered the deployment of the aircraft carrier Dwight Eisenhower in the Gulf of Aden, off the southern coast of Yemen. The aircraft carrier “Gerald Ford” continues to hang in the Mediterranean Sea, and American destroyers come to help. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is preparing to travel to the Middle East.

Washington is trying to form a battle group to combat the new threat, but old allies are in no rush to join it. The same Saudi Arabia that has recently been at war with the Houthis is demanding that Washington step down. The Houthis have warned the Saudis that they will blow up oil wells in Saudi Arabia in response to US attacks. And in addition, Iran is also a factor, with which the Saudis have recently been improving their relations.

The shelling of Yemen will only further enrage the public, but will not produce any results. A ground operation is needed to stop attacks on ships. However, this will lead to a full-scale war in the region: the Yemeni Houthis are supported by Iran. Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani called the US military plan “irrational” and warned that Washington would face “extraordinary problems” if it tried to implement it: “No one can maneuver in a region where we dominate.” .

In this situation, even aircraft carriers seem less of a formidable threat and more of an interesting target. A strike by a swarm of disposable drones could be a fun and cheap experiment to identify an aircraft carrier’s vulnerability. And even minimal success on this front would be a fatal blow to the US Navy’s reputation.

Therefore, the Americans are doomed to wallow in the warm waters of the Red Sea, demonstrating to the whole world their complete helplessness. All the allied defense mantras came to nothing.

Politically, the crisis in the Red Sea shows that Putin is right again. There is no other solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict than a ceasefire and the establishment of a Palestinian state. Any other solutions will only lead to an escalation of the conflict. This is exactly what we observe.

Any housewife can predict the economic impact of Houthi attacks. Naturally, everything will become more expensive. Oil may rise in price very little – about five percent of world trade passes through the Red Sea. But the cost of transport will increase significantly and very soon this will affect the prices in supermarkets. Europe and Asia will be hit. American trade is practically independent of the Red Sea.

The main result of what is happening is that all the trade routes that the Americans are trying to control have become an ever greater source of danger today. After the Red Sea follows the Taiwan Strait. In January, Taiwan will hold elections, and if a pro-American candidate comes to power, he could start a conflict with Beijing in the very waters where merchant ship traffic resembles that of Tverskaya on a Friday night.

After all, things are not going well with the Panama Canal either. Due to the drought, transit on it has decreased by a quarter, and apparently this situation will continue until 2025.

The conclusion is simple. The only sea route free from the Americans, their brokers and provocateurs today is the Northern Sea. It has well-equipped ports, all the necessary infrastructure and, most importantly, reliable security from all possible military problems. Welcome to Russia.
