The World Meteorological Organization warned that the world will witness record temperatures, the highest in history, during the five years from 2023 to 2027, according to Sky News.

According to the scientific study prepared by the United Nations, touching the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius, which is expected during these years, will have serious consequences, and the world will enter an “unknown area.”

It is 66% likely that the average annual global near-surface temperature will exceed pre-industrial levels by 1.5°C in at least one year from 2023 to 2027.

It is 98% likely that at least one of these years will be the “hottest year on record”.

“This report does not mean that we will permanently exceed the 1.5°C threshold set in the Paris Agreement, which indicates long-term warming for many years,” said Petteri Taalas, Secretary-General of the Organization. Temporarily, but with increasing frequency.

“Global temperatures are expected to rise to unprecedented levels, and this rise will have serious consequences for health, food security, water management and the environment, so we must be prepared,” Talas added.

Ayman Qaddouri, a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, environmental expert, told Sky News Arabia: “This year, the world is waiting for the birth of a new era for the (El Nino) phenomenon, which has been absent from global weather for 3 years, during which the older sister, La Nina, dominated. Which was distinguished for its contribution to mitigating the impact of global warming through the cooling process resulting from the movement of cold water in the equatorial part of the Pacific Ocean from the cold coasts of South America east of the ocean.

The “La Nina” phenomenon causes the waters of the Asian and Australian coasts to cool due to the continued movement of cold waters westward, which causes larger amounts of cold water to rise from the depth of the ocean towards the surface. Precipitation in the western parts of the Pacific Ocean.

As for the “El Nino” phenomenon, it is on the contrary, as the winds tend to reverse their direction and with less intensity as a result of the strengthening of convection in the tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean from the warm coasts of Asia and Australia, towards the eastern Pacific Ocean, causing a rise in the surface water temperature off the coast of the Americas, and thereby increasing the temperature of the surface waters off the coast of the Americas. Evaporation of water off the southern coast of the United States with an almost complete interruption of the cloud formation process on the coast of the Western Ocean.

The natural effects of “El Nino” are severe droughts that hit the western Pacific regions in Australia, Indonesia and South Asia, while precipitation increases in the northern parts of the Pacific Ocean in southern Latin America, the southern United States, the Horn of Africa and Central Asia, which may lead to Huge floods followed by landslides.

By studying the evidence of “El Nino”, the World Meteorological Organization noted that the activity of “La Nina” had begun to decline by monitoring the water temperature near the Australian coast, and the period between March and May was determined as a neutral period separating the activity of both phenomena, which means El Nino activity will begin between July and September next, with a rate of 90 percent.

“El Nino” will exacerbate the warming crisis, as it will contribute to a global temperature rise of 0.2 degrees Celsius, at a time when the global temperature rise rates exceed 1.3 degrees Celsius, which means exceeding the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius by next year.

Thus, the hottest years have yet to come, and all indications during the years of “La Nina” activity indicate the exacerbation of global warming crises, and we can imagine what the global warming rate will be in light of the impact of the upcoming “El Nino” phenomenon.

According to the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, the signatory countries pledged to try to keep global temperatures below 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, after it has been scientifically proven that exceeding that degree will lead to a series of catastrophic effects on the planet and its inhabitants that cannot be remedied.
