World Songs: Concert Featuring French Opera Soprano Perīne Madefa and the LNSO Piano Trio

At a chamber music concert World songs in the Great Guild on October 26 at At 19.00, the French opera soprano Perīne Madefa and the LNSO piano trio – violinist Indulis Cintiņš, cellist Dace Zālīte-Zilberte and pianist Mārtiņš Zilberts will perform. In the concert program World songs artists offer a music selection full of surprises. Continuing the tradition, the ensemble includes in its concerts the opus of the great masters of the chamber music genre, this time works by Ludwig van Beethoven, as well as chamber music by Latvian authors, this time a composition by Georg Pelečs Three O, which will have its premiere in Latvia. On the other hand, Lera Auerbach’s first piano trio is a skilfully written and effective masterpiece that proves the talent of the bright and extraordinary pianist and composer. The program also includes the lesser-known British works of the 20th century. the pastoral songs of the composer of the first half, Roger Quilter, which are new to Perine Madef’s repertoire. (Besides choral music, instrumental opuses and stage works, Quilter is known primarily as a composer of songs – he has about a hundred of them.)

“I have already performed several times with Perini Madefu, both here and in Tallinn. She has also collaborated with the LNSO. It occurred to me to involve Perini in our trio concert, which managed to find songs by both Beethoven and Roger Quilter, which these composers created directly for such a composition – a voice and a piano trio,” says the initiator of the World Song concert – pianist Mārtiņš Zilberts. While searching for the repertoire, I suddenly discovered that the Viennese classicist Ludwig van Beethoven even has several cycles of arrangements of songs of different nations, which he wrote for different types of voices (including vocal duets) and piano trios. They are in different languages, and this is where the idea for the name of the concert came from. From these cycles for the concert World songs a selected string of six songs suitable for soprano. “We chose Irish, Venetian, French, Swedish and Tyrolean songs and one instrumental song. Along with them, we will also play the Kakadu variations of Beethoven’s piano trio in Solmajor,” says Mārtiņš Zilberts.

Latvian listeners managed to get to know the internationally acclaimed opera singer Perini Madef already in 2019, when she made her debut in Francis Poulenc’s operas Carmelite dialogues in a production at the Latvian National Opera. Currently, she sings many roles in the best European opera houses, captivating with a delightful timbre of voice and contact with the audience.
