The Superintendent of Pensions, Osvaldo Macias, defended this Thursday the process of the payment of 10 percent of pensions assuring that it was carried out in a time worthy of “world record“and that the questions are”out of context“.
Macías met this Thursday in a session with the Senate Labor Committee to address the problems that revolve around this process, mainly due to the cases of members who have not yet received money from their pension funds.
“This is a reform that was approved in the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies on July 23, in the afternoon, and on July 30 it was already implemented, this is a world record i think. It is not something that has been given a year to implement or six months. The most massive operation in the history of Chile and it has really required efforts titanic of all the actors to make it go. It’s a bit unfair to think that everything can be perfect for those times and those numbers, it’s out of context“, he expressed.
“10,000 million dollars have been paid, which have reached 7.3 million people and that talks about a process that has been well conducted“, he claimed.
In addition, Macías pointed out that “an operation of this magnitude -which has barely been 21 days- has been adequately and correctly addressed, Every effort has been made to make this law work well and the people are getting the money.
“Of course there are problems, we said from the beginning that there could be problems,” said the superintendent, who also added that 93 percent of the affiliates who requested their retirement already have the money.
This despite the fact that a formulation of charges from Superintendency of Pensions against the AFP Model and Habitat, in addition to the reprimands Planvital, Cuprum and Provida.
Main problems
Among the main problems that have been registered in this process of the 10 percent withdrawal, are difficulties with identity cards, banking problems and doubts of foreigners living in the country.
“The main problems we observe are in the identity cards that could not be validated, accounts in financial institutions that do not match the data in these institutions, affiliates who enter the request more than once, affiliates who have zero balance in your accounts, foreign who live in Chile and who have problems to withdraw the money, Chileans who live abroad and foreigners who were in Chile and are now abroad, “explained Macías.
In addition, the problems with non-validated identity cards correspond mainly to foreigners, so a prompt solution is being worked on.
In the coming days, the authority will publish an official letter with the payment method for those people who once made contributions and today live outside of Chile.
