In view of the Ukraine war and the tense situation between Western states and Russia, another global confrontation has increasingly slipped from view: between the West – above all the USA – and China. From a Western perspective, China is behaving in a power-conscious and aggressive manner – both internally and externally: whether with the No-Covid campaign, the suppression of the Uyghurs, the political conformity in Hong Kong, the threats against Taiwan, the economic and political expansion towards Africa, Latin America and Europe, rapprochement with Russia.
