As we already warned you about the first major expansion for Diablo IV, BlizzCon took place over the weekend and of course there was talk of other games from Blizzard. As expected, there was also a shakeup immortal MMORPG World of Warcraft, which will continue to delight players with new content in the form of data discs. But this time, the developers presented a very ambitious plan and instead of one expansion, they openly promised three more. Beyond that, there were also additional talks on the subject of a console version of World of Warcraft, and even here, it seems, the door is not completely closed.
The Worldsoul Saga
Let’s start with the aforementioned trio of data discs that cover the planned trilogy named The Worldsoul Saga. Warcraft General Manager John Hight said that this is the most ambitious plan Blizzard has ever had with WoW data discs, which is even more interesting considering that the game has been around for almost 20 years and it might have seemed like the best was behind it . But Blizzard intends to maintain the status of infinity by releasing the first part of the revealed saga next year and wants to follow up with other sequels in quick succession. In 2024, players can expect the expansion The War Within, which will be followed by parts with the subtitles Midnight and The Last Titan. All data discs will bring separate story lines and together they will form one big arc that will once again expand and advance the lore of the entire world.
As for The War Within, the developers are preparing players for the rise of an ancient civilization, about which members of both the Horde and the Alliance should be informed through visions. The expansion will take place on the new continent of Khaz Algar west of the coast of Kalimdor. Of course, there will be a new race – Eartheni – which comes from the aforementioned Khaz Algar and should bring a unique culture and concept of its own civilization to the game. In terms of gameplay, The War Within will bring a max level increase to 80 and introduce a new form of progressive character upgrade called Hero Talents. The developers want to give players the opportunity to profile their characters according to well-known archetypes from Warcraft, for example in the spirit of Farseer or Dark Ranger. The expansion will be available in the basic edition for a price equivalent to $50 and will also include the ability to play the Dragonflight expansion. However, more expensive editions will be available for 70 or 90 dollars, with the fact that the most expensive one – named Epic Edition – will also offer access to the beta version of the upcoming data disc with the possibility to start playing the full version three days before everyone else.
World of Warcraft on consoles?!
The second big topic of BlizzCon was the console version hinted at in the introduction. In contrast to Final Fantasy XIV, it may seem that Blizzard misses this opportunity criminally, but the fact remains that WoWko is successful on PC and that is probably enough for Blizzard. But not literally, as the game’s executive producer Holly Longdale confirmed in an interview with the magazine GamesRadar. When asked if there was a chance that console players would also join the game, she did not answer in the negative, and perhaps even surprised players by saying that Blizzard is thinking about the console version basically all the time. “Technically and logistically, we’re very well positioned to make it happen,” Longdale said of the console release of World of Warcraft, but the answer has the expected “but.” On the one hand, in her opinion, access to console players and the console version would have to be different than it is in the case of playing on PC, and on the other hand, Blizzard is now busy with the data discs presented above. “But if [tohle téma] comes back, we’ll re-evaluate him, but right now, we have other things to do,” said the producer.
So it’s not a definitive or categorical no, but everyone seems to understand that no one wants to unnecessarily shake up the game miracle that happened thanks to the care of the developers in connection with World of Warcraft, so Blizzard maintains the status quo. Whether it is bad or good, we will find out only if the authors of the game really decide to expand the target platforms, but until then it remains only a hypothetical question, which, in the face of the content available on PC, does not seem to make much sense to deal with.
