To celebrate the game’s history, World of Warcraft shared a video recalling some of the most iconic moments from its past. There are too many epic events in WoW to mention them all, but in this video we look at four of the most memorable: the PvP war in Hillsbrad Foothills, the Corrupted Blood Incident, the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj, and the reshaping of the Cataclysm world. Each event left its mark on World of Warcraft and transformed the world of Azeroth in significant ways.
Epic moments in World of Warcraft – 2004-2010
- 2004 – Battle of Hillsbrad Hill
- The proximity of the Alliance quest center in Southshore and the Horde quest center in Taren Mills leads to constant PvP combat in this area.
- The war inspired the release of Battlegrounds a year later and was immortalized in the PvP fight, Tarren Mill vs. Southshore.
- 2005 – Contaminated blood incident
- Zul’Gurub’s Hakkar infects players with a DoT called Corrupted Blood that spreads to nearby characters, but is usually removed after the encounter.
- Hunter pets that dissolved during combat brought out the DoT of the instance, which spread to both PCs and NPCs for almost a month.
- CDC later used data from the event to support real-world disease modeling studies.
- 2006 – Gates of Ahn’Qiraj
- For the first time, Alliance and Horde players of all levels contributed to the global war effort toward a unified goal.
- After the first man created the Scepter of Quicksand and sounded the scarab gong, the players fought the Qiraji and Silithid armies for ten hours before the Ahn’Qiraj Offensive began.
- One of the rarest mounts in World of Warcraft, the Black Qiraji Battle Tank, can only be obtained during this event.
- 2010 – Cataclysm World Review
- Every zone in vanilla WoW was remade by a global catastrophe that changed the face of Azeroth forever.
- During the pre-patch event, Deathwing flew, burning the field and nearby players, granting a unique achievement for staying in the fire.
These are just some of the most iconic moments in World of Warcraft history. In the comments of the video, fans shared numerous iconic memories, including the sight of world bosses brought to the capital, large-scale raids to defeat faction leaders, and memorable pre-patch events in World of Warcraft.
