Seven years of research for a stone without lime efflorescence – the result is a major development step towards the concrete block of the future

In the beginning, the surface without cement was nothing more than an idea. The basic recipe for concrete has always consisted of cement, water, sand and gravel. Through extensive long-term development work, METTEN turned the idea into a unique technology and applied for a patent that will change the concrete block.
Cement is very energy-intensive to manufacture. The less we need of it, the more climate-friendly our stones become. In the case of a concrete block with EcoTerra® technology in the facing layer, the raw material-related CO2 emissions drop by an impressive 15% per square meter. The use of recycled raw materials and climate-neutral production make the carbon footprint even better.
From February 2021, the new technology will go into series production with the product Corio® EcoTerra®. With its outstanding properties (including free of lime efflorescence, very high color fastness), METTEN Stein + Design presents two new colors in a beautiful and versatile combination form. And the surface is not only free of cement, but also easier to clean thanks to the CleanTop® protection CF 90.
The uniqueness of the EcoTerra technology has already been awarded two prestigious awards. In addition to the nomination for the “German Design Award 2021”, the Red Dot jury justified the awarding of the “Red Dot Innovative Product 2020” award with these words: “EcoTerra is impressive as a new material that offers optimized properties thanks to an innovative manufacturing process and also improves the ecological balance. “
