This tournament is the last tournament of the season in which only the top eight players with points earned this season can participate. Players will be divided into two groups of four and compete in a round-robin format, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
Medvedev, who is ranked 4th in the world, and de Minaur, who is ranked 9th in the world, have met nine times in the past, with Medvedev having six wins and three losses. Their most recent match was in June of this year in the fourth round of the French Open (Paris, France, Red Clay, Grand Slam), where De Minaur came from behind to win.
