The world welcomed the New Year 2024 with a mixture of celebrations, as fireworks in gold and silver colors lit up the sky of the Australian city of Sydney. In Europe, Queen Margaret II of Denmark announced her abdication of the throne she had held for more than half a century.

* Australia – Sydney welcomed the year 2024 with a dazzling fireworks display, which coincides with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the famous Sydney Opera House.
* Denmark – Queen Margaret II of Denmark announced in her annual New Year’s speech that she will abdicate the throne on January 14, after 52 years of reigning, and that she will be succeeded by her eldest son, Crown Prince Frederik.
