World Mental Health Day 2024

World Mental Health Day, 10 October 2024

“Mental health in the workplace”

On World Mental Health Day this year, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners will make a joint effort to highlight the fundamental link between mental health and work. Safe and healthy work environments can provide a protective factor for mental health. On the other hand, unhealthy conditions, which include stigma, discrimination, exposure to risks such as harassment, and other poor working conditions, can pose serious risks that affect mental health and quality of life in general, and therefore participation or productivity at work. With 60% of the world’s population working, urgent steps need to be taken to create a working environment that ensures that the risks of mental health problems are prevented and that mental health is protected and supported at work .

It is vital that governments, employers, organizations representing workers, employers and other stakeholders responsible for worker health and safety work together to improve mental health in the workplace. Employees, their representatives and people with lived experience of mental health conditions should play an important role in activities related to mental health in the workplace. By deploying efforts and investing resources in evidence-based approaches and interventions in the workplace, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed in work and life. Let’s take action today for a healthier future.
