World leaders condemn Supreme Court (MA) decision United States of America which repeals the rules that allow women to perform abortion in the superpower.
Reported from the news agency AFPSaturday (6/25/2022), one of which was strongly criticized by the Prime Minister (PM) You have Justin Trudeau on Friday (24/6) local time.
“The news came out of United States of America it’s terrible,” he said in a message on Twitter. “No government, politician or man should tell a woman what she can and can’t do with her body,” the Canadian leader said.
Previously reported, six US Supreme Court justices appointed by the Republican president overturned a landmark 1973 decision known as “Roe v Wade” that legalized abortion. With this decision, the prohibition and permitting of abortion rights are now left to each state.
In his statement, Trudeau expressed sorrow and sympathy for the millions of American women who have lost their legal right to have an abortion.
“I can’t imagine the fear and anger you feel right now,” she said, assuring women in Canada that she would “always stand up for your right to vote.”
Abortion in Canada is legal at all stages of pregnancy and is funded by the government’s health care system.
The US Supreme Court’s decision runs counter to international trends to relax abortion laws, including in countries such as Ireland, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia where the Catholic Church continues to wield considerable influence.
