Techland from Wrocław is a company known all over the world. It is famous for the production of highly rated computer games, and the last one – Dying Light 2 Stay Human – breaks new sales records in Poland and abroad. The latest hit with zombies in the lead role, which premiered on February 4, is the biggest Polish game of 2022. We talked with Tymon Smektała, Techland’s Lead Designer, about the process of its creation and its Wrocław accents. In the gallery you can see where and what some of the most talented game developers are working on.
– In Techland’s Wrocław branch there is a golf course, table football, and even a slide and hammocks. When working on a big title like Dying Light 2 Stay Human, is there time to enjoy it all?
– Of course, it was different, because creating computer games is a very complex job that requires close and constant cooperation of dozens or even hundreds of people. On the other hand, such work requires a decent dose of rest – so table football, hammocks or massage chairs had their enthusiasts all the time. Relaxation of the mind is very necessary in creative work, it allows you to look at work from a different perspective, then the most interesting ideas come up. Of course, we could use the facilities of our office until the pandemic, because then we mostly switched to remote work.
– Where did you get your inspiration for Dying Light? Were they Western titles, or maybe literature and films?
