On Sunday, the World Health Organization announced that at least 83 people have been killed and more than 1,126 injured in Sudan since fighting broke out between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

The organization said in a statement that the medical supplies it distributed to health facilities before the recent escalation between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been depleted.

The organization stated that movement in Khartoum “is restricted due to insecurity, which creates challenges for doctors, nurses, patients and ambulances to access health facilities, and puts the lives of those who need urgent medical care at risk.”

The organization indicated that it is monitoring health needs and resources across Khartoum and other affected cities to ensure that limited supplies are directed to where they are needed most.

The organization urged both sides in the fighting to respect the impartiality of health care and to ensure unrestricted access to health facilities for those injured in the clashes.

The UN organization indicated that it continues to work with its partners and health authorities to bridge gaps in the provision of health care while ensuring the safety of its employees.

Clashes continued today between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital, Khartoum, and other parts of the country, despite the announcement of approval of a three-hour armistice to open humanitarian corridors.

This coincided with moves by regional powers to urge the two sides to reach a cease-fire, amid warnings from Sudanese civil forces that the war would “tear the country apart and make it lose its unity and sovereignty.”
