AKURAT.CO, As the COVID-19 pandemic ended, the World Health Organization (WHO) received another report regarding new cases of monkey pox (Monkeypox) from non-endemic countries.
WHO has designated Mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) or an international health emergency as a response to prevent the spread of Mpox.
Even though the PHEIC status was revoked by WHO on May 11 2023, the number of Mpox cases is still increasing in various countries.

“The accumulative cases of Mpox from January 1 2022 to September 26 2023 were 90,618 cases with 157 deaths from various countries,” explained Dr. Cut Mirna Amanda Fridayanti.
The most cases in September were reported from the Western Pacific (51.9%) and Southeast Asia (18.1%).
In Indonesia, the first Mpox case was reported on 20 August 2022 and 1 case was reported again on 13 October 2023 without any travel history from the infected country (local transmission).
As of November 23 2023, the Indonesian Ministry of Health reported that the total confirmed cases of Mpox in Indonesia had reached 57 people.
From these figures, DKI Jakarta was recorded as the province with the most reported cases, namely 42 cases, followed by Banten and West Java with 6 cases each, two cases in East Java, and one case in the Riau Islands.
This of course makes policy makers in the health sector throughout the world, especially Indonesia, become alert, as well as the general public who are starting to ask questions about this disease.
