Unterfoehring, February 26, 2023 – The FIFA world election, the so-called “The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022”, will take place on Monday. The winners of “The Best” awards are chosen equally by fans, journalists, national coaches and national team captains.
Lionel Messi and Ann-Katrin Berger each in the final
For the men, the French and World Cup top scorer Kylian Mbappe, his compatriot and Champions League winner Karim Benzema and the Argentine world champion Lionel Messi are in the final.
The women’s nominees include Beth Mead from England, who won the European Championship 2022 Golden Boot, Alex Morgan from the USA and top scorer in the 2022 Concacaf Championship and last year’s winner Alexia Putellas from Spain.
Germany goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger is among the three finalists in the FIFA World Goalkeeper Choices. The 32-year-old from Chelsea announced after the European Championship last summer that she had to undergo cancer treatment again.
FIFA world coach: No German for the first time since 2018, but two ex-Bayern coaches
After Jürgen Klopp (2019 & 2020) and Thomas Tuchel (2021), for the first time since 2018, no German will emerge as the winner. However, with Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, two former Bayern coaches have the chance to be honored as world coaches. Argentina’s national coach Lionel Scaloni can also have hopes.
