World Food Program wins Nobel Peace Prize

The United Nations’ World Food Program wins this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo highlights the international solidarity role of this humanitarian organization, considering that it is more necessary than ever.

The World Food Program aims to eradicate hunger and malnutrition. On the organization’s website it is reported that 690 million people go to bed on an empty stomach despite the world producing enough food for everyone.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner receives ten million Swedish kronor, almost one million euros, a diploma, and the famous medal with the profile of Alfred Nobel. The delivery ceremony will take place on 10 December in Oslo.

There were 211 people and 107 organizations nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
