World food prices fell for the second time in a row in May

The index monitors the prices of cereals, vegetable oils, dairy products, meat and sugar on international markets. Prices of vegetable oils, dairy products and sugar fell in May, while prices of cereals and meat rose.

The sub-index of vegetable oil prices fell by 3.5 percent month-on-month in May, while the dairy index also showed the same decline. The sugar index fell by 1.1 percent.

On the other hand, the meat price index rose by half a percent, so it reached a record. Its growth was mainly due to a significant increase in the price of poultry meat. The index for cereals in May rose by 2.2 percent. Deteriorated prospects for the harvest in Ukraine as a result of the Russian invasion have contributed to its growth.
