After two weeks of intensive and creative work, in Liepāja, on the wall of the building at Pasta Street 24, the latest work “Wind, Sea & Freedom” by the world-famous graffiti artist OZMO has been created – a symbolic representation of Liepāja’s characteristic elements in modern and culturally significant images. The mural emphasizes the importance of the sea in the daily life of the city, depicting it in the image of the sea god Neptune, a seductive and captivating city, depicted in the image of a beautiful woman – a siren, and the wind of Liepaja. In this work, too, OZMO has used such characteristic references to world-famous works of art. The image of Neptune is modeled on the fountain of Neptune in Bologna, Italy, but the wind is symbolized by the wind god Aiola, thus depicted in an ancient marble tab and used in the works of OZMO before. In turn, the woman’s head is decorated with three stars seen in the Latvian State Statue of Liberty, thus emphasizing the importance and role of Liepaja on a national scale.
“When creating my works, I always research and use various symbols in advance. In this mural, the wind creates wavy sea waves, which are united by the beautiful Latvian city of Liepaja, symbolized by a real girl seen on the social network Instagram, a singer,” says OZMO. .
“It took 11 days, 237 color cans, a tube of sunscreen, one lift and many responsive people to help make this long-cherished idea a reality,” the author of the project idea, Liepāja Beach Cafes Red Sun, commented on in order to create more than 150 m2 of work.
