Doha (SID) – For soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, the turmoil surrounding his person following his split with his club Manchester United has had no impact on the Portuguese national team. “Accidents can sometimes shake the player, but not the whole team,” the 37-year-old said in Doha on Monday.
Before leaving for Qatar for the World Cup, Ronaldo had publicly agreed with United in an interview on the show “Piers Morgan Uncensored”. The club then announced “appropriate measures” and are said to have hired a lawyer.
The five-time world footballer also denied a split with teammate Bruno Fernandes, which a social media training video had indicated. “I have a very good relationship with him. His plane was late and I asked him if he was coming by boat. I joked with him,” said Ronaldo.
The Portuguese start the tournament against Ghana on Thursday (17:00 CET/ZDF and MagentaTV).
