I now firmly believe that Brazil will get a new coach soon.
The squad may be one of the weakest in the last 20 years, but that in no way justifies the atrocious style of play and the poor results achieved by the Selecao under Dorival.
If Diniz hadn’t burned out since his interim time, I would have liked to see him, as I find the style of play with which he led Fluminense to Copa victory impressive and I also see the potential in it to more than just stand up to European approaches to the game.
Actually, the ripcord should have been pulled after the disastrous Copa, but the initial results against England and Spain (win and draw) probably saved him. Ultimately, the squad is still very weak compared to its historical predecessors, but he is ultimately responsible for this through his nomination policy.
Wendell and William, known from the Bundesliga, have by no means become world-class players overnight; in Wendell’s case, he is not even a regular player for his club. Before I nominate the latter, I would personally take a Carlos Augusto or Caio Henrique, who can make an impact offensively behind Vini Jr.
In any case, even if we admit that we lack a real striker, the squad is too strong to lose against Paraguay.
If Artur Jorge hadn’t only been at Botafogo for half a year, I would have suggested him as his successor, but I can also imagine a scenario in which dear Mr Ancelotti succumbs to the advances of the Selecao after the season in Madrid and allows himself to be poached. He would probably be the right man in terms of structure and the necessary aura to bring together a team of individually outstanding players.
We can remain excited.
