RUKA. Sweden did not get its proposal through.
Norway and the jury agreed with each other before the World Cup premiere in cross-country skiing.
– We wanted to make it the same for everyone in all tracks, says Swedish coach Andreas Domeij.
Last year, Calle Halfvarsson was washed up in the world cup premiere in Ruka.
He went off the mark on the final hill of the closing race, losing the third place finish he was awarded.
The very last hill of the sprint course became a talking point at the team managers’ meeting the night before the year’s premiere. At the meeting, the jury announced that the hill would contain four tracks initially, before the rightmost track would end.
“More equal”
The Swedish representative at the meeting, women’s coach Andreas Domeij, did not agree that the solution was the best and presented his opinion at the meeting. Sweden would rather have all tracks continue all the way up the hill, or that they all end in the middle of the hill at the same time.
– They think that you should be able to “run” if you are in the track on the far right when you have gone up a bit. Our wish was that the track should be widened so that you could “run” outside the tracks if you wanted to. Or you stop all tracks at a certain point, says Andreas Domeij and continues:
– Then it would be more equal. Now it happens that you lose the track if you have to go in the inner track, on the far right.

Norway agreed with the jury
After Domeij expressed Sweden’s opinion, Norway objected. The Norwegian representative at the meeting told the jury that “we support your proposal”.
Sweden did not get its amendment through.
– They just took in information and made a decision. But everyone knows about the decision, so it’s nothing negative. We just saw it in a different way, it’s not a problem, says Domeij.
The sprint qualifying starts at 10.00 and the quarter-finals start at 12.30. Follow the competitions here.
