World Cup as rehabilitation for Lindsay De Vylder after the failed Olympic Games: “I was ashamed after Paris” – sporza.be

A man with a mission. Lindsey De Vylder wants to leave the Olympics behind her at the Track Cycling World Championships in Denmark. Those Games were a huge disappointment. “It was hard to process.”

It was last summer Lindsay De Vylder keen on a strong performance at the Olympic Games in Paris. After a good performance in the team pursuit and the bronze of Fabio van den Bossche De Vylder was really dreaming of a medal in the team race.

“I was very ambitious beforehand and I think that ambition was justified,” De Vylder explains. “But in the end, things didn’t work out as expected.” After a decent start, De Vylder and Van den Bossche fell flat in the team race and finished 11th.

“I was very surprised by the performance in Paris. In the meantime, we have already identified several reasons and they have been largely eliminated. I hope to be at the same level a- again at this World Cup.”

But De Vylder is not entirely convinced. “No, I’m not 100 percent confident, that’s still a little bit. I only had the Olympic Games as a goal in 2024. I was really looking forward to it and that gave me a boost courage.”

It was hard to process. If I hadn’t had the World Cup, it would have been a different story.

De Vylder was deep in the hole and needed some time to climb out of the hole. “It was difficult to process, especially in the first weeks. It was a bitter pill, so to speak,” says De Vylder.

“Luckily the World Cup came quickly and I had a goal to work towards. If I didn’t have that and had to go into the winter like that, it would be a different story.”

The World Cup, again at Van den Bossche’s team, must now honor De Vylder. “Definitely,” he assures, even though his confidence still hasn’t returned. “Whether we compete for the medals? I don’t need to say that anymore, I hope so. But after my performance at the Olympic Games, I’m now going to say” No.”
