World champion Laia Codina leaves Barça and signs for Arsenal
The Spanish defender lands in the London team, as was already suspected during the last days of the tournament held in Australia and New Zealand. The official announcement was made this Tuesday.
Laia Codina has seven appearances with the Spanish team, with which she won the World Cup in Sydney. A substitute at the start of the tournament, she started all four of Red’s knockout matches, including the final against England (1-0).
“She is a world-class defender and I am delighted to work with her at Arsenal,” Gunner manager Jonas Eidevall was quoted as saying in a statement posted on the club’s website.
“I know the history of this club, so when I found out that Arsenal were interested I didn’t think twice,” Codina said.
The Catalan, trained at Barça, where she arrived at the age of 14, played 34 games in the first team, winning three League titles and two Champions Leagues.
