World champion hand biking completes Pieterpad in two days and collects 4000 euros

In two days handbiker Tim de Vries traveled the 500 kilometers of the Pieterpad. The three-time world champion thus managed to raise more than 4000 euros for children who, just like him, need an adapted bicycle.

The last 100 kilometers of the route between Pieterburen and the Sint-Pietersberg was “quite a pain”. Nevertheless, he arrived at his destination in Maastricht around 4.30 pm this afternoon, entirely according to plan. During the ride he cycled about 28 to 30 kilometers per hour.

Actually, De Vries was supposed to be at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo this year, but the corona crisis threw a spanner in the works. He wanted to make good use of his training time for the edition planned for 2021. At the same time, he saw that many children are at home because of corona and cannot exercise.

He decided to combine the two things and got sponsored for his tour. The result, 4000 euros, goes to the Johan Cruyff Foundation, which donates the money to the Royal Dutch Cycling Union (KNWU). They have them made into adapted bicycles.
