Argentina finally breaking the fast of 36 years by becoming a champion World Cup 2022. Son of the deceased Diego Maradona also congratulated and praised Lionel Messi.
“Argentina has become world champion, I am happy for your achievement Leo Messi, because nobody deserves it more than you,” wrote Diego Maradona Jr. via his social media.
“I am happy to be with the Argentine people. I always felt like an Argentine in my soul. Dad was celebrating up there and I really wanted to hug him!” continued Diego Jr., who now lives in Naples.
Messi and others became champions after beating France on penalties in the final which took place at Lusail Stadium on Sunday (18/12). This is Argentina’s third world title.
Before that, the last time Albiceleste became world champion was in 1986, when La Pulga was not yet born. At that time, Argentina, strengthened by Diego Maradona, won 3-2 over West Germany. A few months later, Diego Jr. was born.
However, the relationship between Diego Jr. and Maradona did not go well at first. Because it was born from an extramarital relationship between Maradona and Cristiana Sinagra, a woman he met while defending Napoli.
Diego Jr. was also raised by his mother, and it wasn’t until 2016 that Maradona publicly acknowledged Diego Jr. as his biological son.
