On World Cancer Day, the data relating to the numbers of cancer cases in Italy remain very high and are relative to 2018. We therefore do not know the impact that the pandemic has had on cancer, screening and treatments. Worldwide, specialists diagnosed more than 18 million cases in 2018. In our country, the latest Aiom-Airtum report spoke of 371,000 new cancer diagnoses. 196,000 were men and 175,000 were women. In total in Italy, about a thousand people receive a new diagnosis of cancer every day. The most common cancers are:
- breast cancer with 53,500 new cases in 2019,
- to the colorectal with 49,000 cases,
- lung cancer with 42,500,
- the prostate with 37,000,
- that to the bladder with 29,700 cases.
World Cancer Day: more than 1,000,000 Italians completely healed
In 2019, almost 3,500,000 Italians lived after being diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, this figure is constantly growing. Of these people, 54% are women, 46% men. At least one in four patients, equal to nearly one million people, has returned to have the same life expectancy as the general population and can be considered cured.
Most healings in men are recorded for i testicular tumors, of the prostate and thyroid. In women for thyroid cancers, the breast and for melanoma. Women have a longer survival for all cancers than men.
World Cancer Day: twenty-one day to create a positive habit
It is thought that it takes three weeks for our body to take on new lifestyles. For the World Cancer Day it was decided to launch five challenges through the official website of World Cancer Day. The five challenges are as follows:
- I will focus on my health with daily challenges that will focus on physical activity and healthy eating.
- I will support someone I know who has cancer with daily inspirations on even small actions to give care and attention to someone we love who has cancer.
- I’ll talk about cancer in public, with daily tips for building your confidence in talking about cancer.
- I will learn about cancer, with daily lessons that will help us learn more about cancer.
- I will help eliminate cervical cancer of the uterus.
Taking part in these challenges is very easy. Just sign up and receive valuable and authoritative information every day. Each day you will receive an e-mail with an activity, a lesson or a suggestion to put your commitment into practice and make it customary.
The intention of the organizers is to make as many people think about what each of us can really do against cancer.
