Various events, including days of awareness, media and collection, will be organized from tomorrow Tuesday across the national territory on the occasion of the celebration of World Blood Donor Day, said Monday, the National Blood Agency (ANS).
These events, which will last a week, are organized by the ANS in partnership with the representation of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Algeria and in coordination with the Health Directorates through the blood transfusion structures, the Algerian Federation of blood donors, the associative movement, various administrations and public and private companies and mobile telephone operators, specifies the same source. Also associated with these actions, aimed at setting up a national solidarity chain, are the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, through the Friday sermon, and the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), through the launch of the second national blood collection campaign from June 19 to 21. Several honorary ceremonies will also be organized throughout the country, for regular donors, various partners and the associative movement, in recognition “of the efforts made and their unfailing commitment, particularly during the health crisis” and their “crucial role” in guaranteeing a sustainable supply of safe blood and blood products for healthcare services. At the same time, a partnership agreement between the ANS and the Water and Sanitation Company of Algiers (Seaal) was signed to coordinate efforts within the framework of the promotion and collection of blood donation with Seaal staff.
During the celebration of World Blood Donor Day in 2021, 7,502 blood bags were collected across the national territory, recalls the ANS. “While blood transfusion is an essential aspect of public health care, it is also widely recognized as an act that contributes to strengthening social ties and building a united community”, underlines the ANS, noting that blood donors ” have always responded to the call for the donation of blood and blood products for the benefit of patients requiring a transfusion”.
“Their mobilization and national coordination with blood transfusion services have ensured a safe and sufficient blood supply as well as access to blood for those who need it,” adds the same source. Established in 2005, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14 each year. The WHO has chosen for this 18th edition the slogan “Give blood: an act of solidarity, join the movement and save lives!”.
