World Bank/Public procurement: economic operators in training – AGP

Libreville, June 09, 2023 (AGP)-The Resident Representation of the World Bank in Gabon, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Recovery, organized, this Friday in Libreville, a training and awareness workshop on the participation of Gabonese economic operators in public contracts financed by the World Bank.

The main objective of this workshop is to strengthen the participation of national economic operators in public procurement.

Opening the work on behalf of the Minister of the Economy, the secretary general of the said ministry, said all the interest of such a meeting, that of allowing economic operators in Gabon to better respond to national and international calls for tenders. . The expression, according to him, of the joint will of the Gabonese government and the World Bank to consolidate the competitiveness of SMEs, SMIs and local consultants, in order to enable them to seize multiple market opportunities through their strategic cooperation.

It was also a question, for the SG of the Ministry of the Economy, of recalling the ambition of Gabon, which wants to be more inclusive and more accessible to local economic operators. It is for this reason that, in perspective, training sessions as well as information delivered at the end of this workshop will allow them, in fine, to be aware of the opportunities offered by the Gabon-Groupe partnership. World Bank. This, within the framework of the current CPF.

It will also be a question for Gabon, to open up to the publication portal of national and international calls for tenders that the World Bank makes available to them.

For her part, the representative of the Country Representative of the World Bank, Rose Cadet, recalled the framework of this day which constitutes, for the latter, an opportunity for the participants to be equipped with the basics necessary for the appropriation existing business opportunities, in order not only to seize them, but also to seize them, in order to increase its business, create jobs and shared wealth.

Rose Cadet, also returned to the strategic partnership that has existed between the Gabonese State and the World Bank since 1963. A partnership that is renewed every 5 years, through the signing of cooperation frameworks and relates to technical support and of the Bank to the country, in its development process.

In addition to the official part of speeches, the WB experts maintained the assistance on the presentation of the Institution, the commitments, the sovereign risks, the proportion of disbursement, the commitment of the WB in West Africa and the Centre, with a focus on Gabon, the overall disbursement rate for the entire region and particularly Gabon, as well as the distribution of contracts by sector in the Gabon portfolio, among others.

At the end of these first two phases, the WB affirmed its commitment to support Gabon in its Transformation Acceleration Plan (PAT). This was followed by the question-and-answer part, rich in lessons.
