Positive list throughout Europe Fortunately, there is also good news on this animal day, because it is the first animal day on which the Dutch positive list is in force! After years of effort by AAP and other animal welfare organizations, this came into effect on July 1, 2024. The list makes it clear at once which animals may and may not be kept as pets or hobby animals. Without a positive list, exotic mammals continue to lead a life for which they are unsuitable. Or they are dumped, leading to animal suffering and overcrowded shelters. Such a list prevents a lot of animal suffering!
The positive list is now available in the Netherlands, but this is not yet the case in many other European countries. AAP therefore remains committed to obtaining a postive list in as many European countries as possible. Our ultimate goal is that there will eventually be a positive list that applies to the entire European Union.
Because every animal deserves a life in which it can simply be an animal!
